About The Position

The Department of Healthcare and Family Services, Child Support Services (CSS) is seeking to hire a highly qualified and motivated Spanish speaking professional to join our Cook Central Region in the role of Child Support Specialist II. This position serves as a technical expert to lower-level Child Support Specialists; reviews and reconciles the more complex child support case records; interprets and reviews support orders, both judicial and administrative, for case review and entry into the system. resolves customer service issues through direct customer contact or with other state agencies, legal partners, etc., by phone, written correspondence, e-mail, and face-to-face office visits. Serves as an expert witness in court and at administrative hearings, assists with planning and implementing judicial, administrative, and legislative policies relating to child support services. Additionally, translates information and documents into Spanish for non-English speaking people. Requirements

  • Requires two (2) years of Child Support Specialist I experience
  • Requires extensive knowledge of court and administrative practices related to parentage and child support
  • Requires extensive experience in applying analytical tools to assess a child support case
  • Requires ability to speak and write Spanish at a colloquial skill level
  • Requires the ability to pass a national background check prior to employment due to accessing confidential federal tax information
  • Requires the ability to utilize and maintain state issued equipment such as a laptop
  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a technical expert to lower-level Child Support Specialists.
  • Reviews and reconciles the more complex child support case records.
  • Interprets and reviews support orders, both judicial and administrative, for case review and entry into the system.
  • Resolves customer service issues through direct customer contact or with other state agencies, legal partners, etc., by phone, written correspondence, e-mail, and face-to-face office visits.
  • Serves as an expert witness in court and at administrative hearings.
  • Assists with planning and implementing judicial, administrative, and legislative policies relating to child support services.
  • Translates information and documents into Spanish for non-English speaking people.
  • Interviews applicants and/or reviews Uniform Interstate Family Support Act (UIFSA) petitions received from other IV-D agencies/jurisdictions for public assistance and non-assistance to establish, modify, and enforce financial and medical support obligations of legal Non-Custodial Parents (NCPs) and/or putative parents.
  • Initiates legal pleadings for transmittal to the office of the Attorney General and other legal representatives for the filing of a support or paternity action.
  • Interviews absent parents, putative parents, and spouses.
  • Serves as liaison to and develops working relationships with the Attorney General, other legal representatives, other jurisdictions, employers, and the community.
  • Interprets family support policies, rules, and procedures for staff, clients, absent parents, and legal representatives and monitors implementation to ensure federal regulations are met.
  • Translates information into and conducts interviews in Spanish for non-English speaking people.
  • Assists regional and central office support staff in making limited field investigations to locate employers, absent parents, or putative parents when leads indicate they are working/residing in the area and in locating absent parents whose addresses are unknown.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
