About The Position

GEO Academies Baton Rouge is seeking a Child Specific Aide to assist a classroom teacher in meeting the physical and instructional needs of a student with a disability in an educational setting. The role supports classroom programs, including academic instruction, behavior management, and self-help, under the general supervision of school administration and the immediate direction of a certified teacher.

Requirements

Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
Patience and empathy when working with students.
Ability to support individual and diverse student needs, including behavior.
Organizational skills and attention to detail.
A minimum of an associate degree, completion of two years of study at an institution of higher education, or passing scores on the ETS Parapro Exam.
Passion for supporting student learning and development.

Previous experience in an educational setting.

Responsibilities

Assist teachers with academic instruction, self-care, social skills instruction, and behavior management.
Assist a student with a physical disability according to the student’s needs, including transfers to and from wheelchairs, lifting, or positioning when needed.
Assist with physical needs and personal care, including feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene when needed.
Learn and adapt to the student’s medical, physical, social, and communicative needs.
Maintain supervision of the student throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom.
Keep teachers informed of the individual student’s special needs or problems.
Participate in staff professional development training, faculty meetings, and assigned special events.
Maintain professional confidentiality concerning personnel and students.
Support school district goals and objectives and follow district policies.
Perform other duties as assigned.
