About The Position

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Division of Family Well-Being & Protection, Bureau of Child Protective Services, is hiring a Child & Family Services Case Manager for the Eastern Iowa Service Area (based out of the Fayette County HHS office (129 S. Vine St., West Union, IA 52175)) covering West Union and surrounding areas. As a Child & Family Services Case Manager, you’ll support families in which child abuse and/or neglect has occurred. You will work with the families and local resources to decrease the likelihood of continued abuse while preserving families. You’ll continue to monitor safety, provide guidance, and help families access resources that promote stability and well-being.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university; OR the equivalent of four years of full-time technical work experience involving direct contact with people in overcoming their social, economic, psychological, or health problems; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting the equivalent of one year of full-time qualifying work experience for one year (thirty semester or equivalent hours) of the required education to a maximum substitution of four years.

Responsibilities

  • Support families during the reconciliation phase and help them work with resources such as medical/mental health professionals, community partners, schools, etc.
  • Conduct home visits and interviews, document findings clearly to assess the ongoing child safety and risk, develop safety plans, assess the strengths and needs of the child and family, and make recommendations to various county attorneys and courts
  • Apply Iowa Code and HHS policy to determine case outcomes
  • Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all situations
