About The Position

Babilou Family US is seeking an Assistant Teacher to help create a safe, nurturing, organized, and sustainable learning environment where children can grow and thrive. The Assistant Teacher supports the Certified Teacher in implementing learning experiences and lesson plans, maintaining the classroom, supervising children, supporting individual developmental needs, and communicating with families and colleagues. The school operates year-round, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The position involves an active classroom, regular movement between indoor and outdoor learning spaces, and frequent interaction with children, families, and team members. Employees must complete a background check as required by the Department of Early Education and Care.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience working with young children in a childcare or educational setting.
Knowledge of child development and classroom safety standards.
Strong communication, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to follow lesson plans and effectively support the Certified Teacher.
Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods, up to 75 percent of the workday.
Ability to transition between sitting, standing, bending, kneeling, and squatting throughout the day.
Ability to safely lift, carry, and move items up to 30 pounds.
Ability to sit on the floor, engage at a child’s eye level, and participate in age-appropriate activities, including light running and outdoor play supervision.
Comfort working in a dynamic, sometimes noisy environment with frequent interruptions and movement between indoor and outdoor spaces.
Ability to supervise children in playgrounds, classrooms, hallways, entryways, and common areas.
Ability to respond quickly and safely in emergency situations.
Completion of a background check as required by the Department of Early Education and Care.

Nice To Haves

Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education.
Experience or interest in sustainability, environmental education, or eco-conscious classroom practices.

Responsibilities

Assist the Certified Teacher in implementing daily lesson plans and learning experiences that support whole-child development and introduce age-appropriate sustainability concepts.
Help maintain a clean, organized, and environmentally responsible classroom by following sustainable routines for materials, storage, and resource use.
Supervise children during classroom activities, meals, transitions, and outdoor experiences.
Act as a mandated reporter and recognize, document, and immediately report suspected child abuse, neglect, or endangerment in accordance with state law.
Support individual developmental needs and nurture children’s understanding of caring for themselves, others, and the environment.
Greet families and assist with communication practices and consistent messaging directed by the Certified Teacher.
Participate in family engagement events, which may include sustainability-themed activities or community learning opportunities.
Attend required training and maintain certifications related to early childhood education, safety, and sustainable practices.
Collaborate with the teaching team to improve classroom systems, curriculum, and sustainability initiatives.
Follow and model safety procedures, including responding safely to emergencies, evacuations, and drills.
