Chief Services Officer

Federation of State Medical Boards•Euless, TX

About The Position

The Federation of State Medical Boards (FSMB) seeks an innovative, collaborative, enterprise-minded Chief Services Officer (CSO) to lead operational excellence and organizational performance across its portfolio of services, assessment programs, technology, data resources, and member experience. FSMB represents the nation’s state medical boards and supports medical regulation, physician licensure, and public protection. The organization is entering a period of strategic evolution as it expands the services, technology, and capabilities it provides to member boards and the broader medical regulatory community. Reporting to the President and CEO, the CSO is a key member of the executive leadership team, with enterprise responsibility across operations, service portfolio, assessment programs, technology, and innovation. Working with senior leadership, the Board of Directors, and external partners including the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME), the CSO will promote effective execution across business units, strengthen operational alignment and accountability, improve processes and service delivery, and help FSMB respond to the evolving needs of its member boards. The successful leader will bring broad operational leadership experience and an enterprise perspective, recognizing the interdependencies across operations, services, assessment, technology, and people. They will translate strategy into execution, optimize operations and service delivery, develop senior leaders, drive performance across interconnected functions, and identify opportunities to improve efficiency and value for member boards. Technology, data, analytics, emerging technologies, and artificial intelligence will be important enablers of operational effectiveness, innovation, and organizational performance. Success does not require functional expertise in every portfolio area, but calls for the judgment to identify what should evolve and the wisdom to recognize what should remain unchanged. The CSO will build trust and collaboration, communicate effectively through change, and lead by influence. The role calls for strong relationships with executive leadership, staff, member boards, and external partners, and an environment characterized by engagement, accountability, and shared purpose. The successful candidate will help FSMB advance operational excellence and innovation and maintain its position as a leading organization supporting medical regulation and physician licensure.
