Chief Operating Officer

Sitreps•Baltimore, MD

About The Position

The company is hiring its first Chief Operating Officer to lead the operating system of an established, founder-led property restoration and home repair business serving residential and commercial customers across the Baltimore region. The company’s work includes water and fire mitigation, contents, and full reconstruction. Backed by an investment partner, it is pursuing significant growth through scaling existing operations and developing newer lines of business. The COO leads department heads across operating and support functions, coordinates how departments work together, and builds the processes, systems, and reporting needed to support the company’s next stage of growth. The role is hands-on: the COO is expected to learn the business from the field up, improve operations without adding unnecessary overhead, and protect job-level margin discipline. The founder remains focused on growth initiatives, customer and project-manager relationships in the field, and company culture. The COO partners with the founder daily, taking operational decisions off the founder’s plate and translating business instincts into repeatable processes. This is a full-time, in-office role in the Baltimore, Maryland area, with field work as needed. Compensation is a base salary of $165,000–$200,000, an annual performance bonus dependent on KPIs, and equity participation in the business.

Requirements

  • Senior operations leadership experience in a field-services, construction, or trade-services business with $20 million or more in revenue.
  • Experience with distributed crews, job costing, and vendor and subcontractor relationships.
  • Track record of building processes and using technology to improve how departments work together.
  • Strong financial command, including unit economics, job margins, working capital, and the effects of growth on these areas.
  • Experience developing managers and holding a leadership team accountable.
  • Lean, owner’s mindset; solves problems by improving the work rather than adding headcount.
  • Willingness to work in the Baltimore-area office every day and in the field as needed.

  • Restoration industry experience, including insurance program (TPA) work.
  • Experience in residential construction, remodeling, roofing, HVAC, plumbing, or other home services.
  • Experience building a sales motion around referral partners or commercial accounts.
  • Experience scaling a business through rapid growth.
  • Experience in a private equity-backed or recently acquired company.

  • Establish clear ownership and a regular operating cadence, reducing the business’s dependence on any one person.

  • Protect and improve job-level profitability, particularly in reconstruction.
  • Understand unit economics, track key metrics, and identify problems early.
  • Coach and develop existing leaders, raise expectations where needed, and make sound people decisions with follow-through.
  • Help the organization develop new ways to win work, including referral partners and commercial customers, alongside its insurance program business.
  • Set up each line of business to operate appropriately.
  • Partner with the founder daily, take operational decisions off the founder’s plate, provide data for major decisions, and turn the founder’s instincts into repeatable processes.

Benefits
