About The Position

The company is hiring its first Chief Operating Officer to lead operations at an established, founder-led property restoration and home repair business serving residential and commercial customers across the Baltimore region. The company’s services include water and fire mitigation, contents, and full reconstruction, and it is backed by an investment partner and planning for significant growth. The COO will own the operating system of the business while the founder focuses on growth initiatives, field engagement, and culture. This hands-on leader will oversee department heads, improve coordination across departments, establish processes, systems, and reporting, and preserve job-level margin discipline. The role is based in the Baltimore, Maryland office, with field work as needed, and reports to the Founder & CEO.

Requirements

  • Experience with distributed crews, job costing, and vendor and subcontractor relationships.
  • A track record of building processes and using technology to improve coordination between departments.
  • Strong command of unit economics, job margins, working capital, and the effects of growth on these areas.
  • Experience developing managers and holding a leadership team accountable.
  • A lean, owner’s mindset focused on improving work rather than adding headcount.
  • Willingness to work in the Baltimore-area office every day and in the field as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Restoration industry experience, including insurance program (TPA) work.
  • Experience in residential construction, remodeling, roofing, HVAC, plumbing, or other home services.

  • Build processes, systems, and reporting that provide leadership with a clear view of business performance.
  • Protect and improve job-level profitability, particularly in reconstruction, by understanding unit economics, tracking key metrics, and identifying problems early.
  • Coach and develop existing leaders, raise performance expectations where needed, and make sound people decisions with follow-through.
  • Enable growth through new sources of work, including referral partners and commercial customers, alongside the company’s insurance program business.
  • Set up each line of business to operate appropriately for its needs.
  • Partner with the founder daily, take operational decisions off the founder’s plate, provide data for significant decisions, and turn the founder’s instincts into repeatable processes.

Benefits
