Chief of Staff - SF Bay Area

Bright Money•San Francisco, CA
•Hybrid

About The Position

Bright Money is hiring a Chief of Staff to work directly with its co-CEOs. Bright is a profitable, AI-native consumer fintech serving middle-income consumers in the United States. This is a high-ownership operating role for someone a few years into their career, offering the opportunity to help scale an established fintech and take on responsibility that may typically come later in a career. It is not an executive-assistant or scheduling-focused position. The Chief of Staff will own special projects spanning product, engineering, operations, partnerships, and finance, bringing structure to open-ended problems and following them through to completion. The role connects the company’s US and India teams, supports relationships with commercial partners and investors, and helps keep decisions and work moving. As trust develops, the Chief of Staff will represent the co-CEOs in partner conversations and make decisions on their behalf when appropriate. The position is based in the San Francisco Bay Area and is hybrid. It involves US daytime work and regular evening hours several nights a week with the India team, as well as occasional travel to India. Bright expects a two-to-three-year commitment and requires authorization to work in the United States. Compensation is competitive and includes equity; the company also offers an excellent benefits package in line with sector best practice.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of experience in consulting, investment banking, private equity, venture capital, or another demanding environment; candidates from high-growth startups, business operations roles, or companies they have built are also welcome.
  • Ability to build a financial model, work with imperfect data, and turn analysis into a concise recommendation.
  • Comfort with external stakeholders and an understanding of what partners, banks, or investors need to hear.
  • Daily use of AI tools and at least one automation the candidate would be willing to demonstrate.
  • Ownership of difficult, ambiguous work and ability to learn unfamiliar areas quickly.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, reliable execution and ability to manage competing priorities in an unstructured environment.
  • Comfort making decisions with incomplete information and handling both small tasks and high-stakes work.
  • Precise writing, effective meeting facilitation, and ability to work across cultures and time zones.
  • Integrity, composure under pressure, low ego, and careful handling of confidential information.
  • Ability to work regular evening hours with the India team and make a two-to-three-year commitment.
  • Authorization to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in fintech, lending, or another regulated business.
  • Experience working with teams in India.
  • A previous Chief of Staff title is not required.

  • Bring structure to open-ended assignments, including projects involving partner launches, new products, and vendor processes.
  • Keep context and decisions moving between the US and India teams, particularly across Product and Operations.
  • Prepare the CEO for conversations with bank partners, lenders, and other commercial partners; track commitments and, over time, lead conversations directly.
  • Help prepare investor updates and Board materials, and join investor conversations when needed.
  • Anticipate needs, prepare for meetings, and ensure decisions have owners and follow-through.
  • Learn how the CEOs think, make calls on their behalf when appropriate, and recognize when a decision should remain theirs.
  • Apply independent judgment by questioning assumptions, disagreeing constructively, and explaining what would change your mind.
  • Use AI tools to automate reporting, meeting preparation, and project tracking.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation including equity.
  • Excellent benefits package in line with sector best practice.
  • Equity at an inflection stage of scale.
