About The Position

Responsible for managing, directing and supervising the following services: surgery, obstetrics, emergency services, med/surg, long-term care, infection control, cardiac rehab, employee wellness, dietary/dietician, nurse apprentice program and nursing educator. Reports to the hospital administrator. Participates as a member of the hospital’s management team in planning, policy formulation, and administrative decision making with particular reference to nursing services and the listed ancillary services. Provides administrative coverage as required in the absence of the administrator.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Active Nevada Registered Nurse License
  • Current BLS certification
  • Current ACLS certification
  • Demonstrates appropriate judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Uses problem-solving skills appropriately

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing

Responsibilities

  • Assess the quality and appropriateness of patient care rendered in the hospital as related to nursing services
  • Identify problems in nursing care delivery and seek solutions for problems and document action taken
  • Ensures that nursing standards, health and safety requirements are met in the individual nursing units
  • Initiates the development of policies and procedures that govern nursing services
  • Disseminates information on new policies and procedures, management decisions, etc. to individual nursing units
  • Actively participates in evaluation of staff performance in a timely manner. Initiates and documents corrective actions for improvement
  • Responsible for staff performance, staff recruitment, staff retention and staff development
  • Evaluates the quality and cost effectiveness of staffing and makes recommendations as appropriate
  • Serves as a spokesperson for nursing matters and represents the hospital with professional nursing and related organizations
  • Attends and participates in appropriate management meetings and committees
  • Promotes cooperation of nursing staff to achieve nursing department objectives and maintain good department relations
  • Provides direct nursing care as necessary
  • Exercises cost containment practices and educates nursing staff in such practices
  • Submits reports to appropriate areas in a timely fashion
  • Maintains an open line of communication and works cooperatively with other departments, staff and physicians
  • Delegates to nursing service supervisory personnel the administrative authority, responsibility and accountability necessary to perform their assigned duties
  • Acts upon patient, family, physician and staff concerns/complains as appropriate
  • Oversees the assessment and documentation of staff competency on an ongoing basis
  • Identifies the educational needs of staff and initiates action to meet those needs
  • Recommends to the administrator the equipment and supply needs of the nursing department
  • Advises the administrator of nursing activities, needs, problems and unusual events
  • Maintains knowledge of regulatory standards
  • Maintains confidentiality of all patient/resident/staff information
  • Other related duties as assigned.
