About The Position

The Chief Marketing Officer partners with Group Vice Presidents and Brand Management leaders to develop and execute a comprehensive, global marketing strategy that strengthens brand awareness, accelerates user acquisition, and drives market penetration. Provides enterprise-level leadership and strategic oversight of global marketing functions, including digital and commerce platforms, consumer insights and analytics, internal and external global communications, investor and public relations, and corporate branding. Collaborates closely with cross‑functional teams to deliver a consistent, innovative product roadmap grounded in validated consumer insights. Ensures marketing initiatives are aligned with the organization’s strategy, vision, and mission, partnering with business unit leaders to maximize effectiveness and business impact.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a master's degree in communications, marketing, public relations, business or equivalent.
  • Typically requires a minimum of 15 years of marketing leadership experience within a global consumer goods organization which includes overseeing enterprise marketing strategy, digital marketing, marketplace strategies, market intelligence, consumer insights, communications and investor/public relations.
  • Proven ability to develop and oversee the execution of comprehensive, enterprise‑level marketing strategies aligned with business objectives and growth priorities.
  • Deep expertise in digital marketing and eCommerce strategies, with a proven track record of driving revenue growth and consumer engagement across channels.
  • Experience leading strategic communications for internal and external audiences, including industry, partners, customers, investors, and media.
  • Solid financial acumen, including understanding financial statements, disclosures, and performance drivers; ability to translate complex financial concepts for diverse audiences.
  • Ability to prioritize and lead multiple, complex initiatives in a fast‑paced environment while ensuring disciplined execution and timely delivery.
  • Exceptional communication, collaboration, and influencing skills, with the ability to build trust, navigate conflict, incorporate constructive feedback, and drive results across all organizational levels and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Establishes and leads the enterprise‑wide marketing strategy aligned with Johnson Outdoors’ business objectives, growth priorities, and long‑term value creation goals.
  • Partners with business unit leadership to translate strategy into integrated marketing plans that drive revenue, profitability, and brand equity.
  • Provides executive oversight of the standardized, gated innovation process across the enterprise, driving adoption through cross-functional leadership, training, continuous improvement, and disciplined execution.
  • Leads innovation metrics, reporting, and opportunity landscaping to prioritize resources, strengthen the innovation pipeline, and translate validated consumer insights, market intelligence, and emerging technologies into high‑potential growth opportunities.
  • Develops and oversees the enterprise digital and eCommerce strategy, including digital marketing, advanced analytics, consumer data platforms, direct‑to‑consumer capabilities, and omnichannel/eRetail integration.
  • Ensures scalable, cohesive digital strategies that attract, engage, convert, and retain consumers across the full marketing funnel.
  • Owns Amazon and other third‑party marketplace strategies, including assortment, pricing, promotions, content, campaigns, partner relationships, conversion optimization, and digital shelf excellence.
  • Drives profitable growth through disciplined marketplace execution and continuous performance optimization.
  • Oversees global consumer insights, research, and marketing intelligence to inform enterprise decision‑making.
  • Leads advanced analytics to identify key consumer and business behaviors, directly linking insights to strategic priorities, growth initiatives, and performance outcomes.
  • Leads corporate brand strategy, ensuring alignment with product brand strategies and consistent integration across consumer‑facing, digital, and enterprise platforms.
  • Develops and oversees enterprise communications strategy aligned with the organization’s culture, mission, vision, values, and strategic objectives.
  • Leads internal and external communications, stakeholder engagement, and critical change communications.
  • Develops and manages investor relations strategy to strengthen corporate reputation, credibility, and market perception.
  • Serves as a key liaison between business leadership and investor relations, and acts as a company spokesperson with media and industry representatives as appropriate.
  • Provides strategic input into investor presentations, executive reporting, SEC filings, annual reports, disclosures, and investor‑focused digital content.
  • Oversees preparation of executives for media engagements, public appearances, and high‑impact communications.
  • Partners closely across functions and external stakeholders to ensure marketing strategies and execution consistently meet or exceed KPIs, driving revenue growth and profitability.
  • Builds, develops, and leads a high‑performing global marketing organization.
  • Drives talent development, succession planning, and capability building to support long‑term enterprise growth.
  • Performs other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Provides full people leadership accountability, including hiring, performance management, compensation decisions, development, and employee relations.
  • Oversees development and management of global marketing budgets within approved guidelines.
  • Establishes and approves departmental policies, processes, and governance frameworks to support business needs.
