About The Position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) serves as a key member of the executive leadership team of a leading, independent children's hospital, with enterprise-wide responsibility for financial stewardship, long-term sustainability, and strategic growth. The CFO partners closely with the President & CEO, Board of Directors, and executive leadership to ensure financial integrity, operational excellence, and alignment with the organization's mission, vision, and strategic priorities. The CFO oversees all financial functions across the health system, including revenue cycle, accounting, financial reporting, accounts payable, payroll, purchasing, treasury, payer contracting, budgeting and forecasting, capital and project financing, and external financial relationships. In addition, the CFO has executive oversight of the enterprise strategy and business development function, ensuring that strategic planning, growth initiatives, partnerships, and investments are financially sound, mission-aligned, and value-driven. The CFO brings deep expertise in pediatric and academic healthcare finance, a strong understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements affecting hospitals and physician enterprises, and a demonstrated ability to leverage data, technology, and analytics to enhance performance. The CFO is responsible for advancing and continuously refining financial and strategic capabilities required to support innovation, growth, and long-term organizational success in an increasingly complex healthcare environment.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Health Administration, or related field
  • 15 years of progressive leadership experience in finance and/or accounting
  • At least 10 years in senior executive roles within a complex healthcare system or similarly sophisticated organization recognized for excellence in financial management
  • Broad and deep knowledge of healthcare finance, accounting, reimbursement, regulatory requirements, and financial governance
  • Proven ability to drive enterprise strategy through financial insight, disciplined capital allocation, and value-based decision-making
  • Demonstrated success leading both financial operations and strategic growth initiatives in complex, matrixed organizations
  • Ability to balance long-term strategic vision with operational rigor and attention to detail
  • Strong track record of leveraging technology, analytics, and data-driven insights to improve performance and scalability
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to present complex financial and strategic information clearly to boards, clinicians, executives, and external stakeholders
  • Collaborative leadership style with the ability to influence, partner, and lead through change
  • High emotional intelligence, sound judgment, and unquestioned personal and professional integrity
  • Executive presence characterized by confidence, credibility, humility, and a servant-leadership mindset

Responsibilities

  • Establish and lead the enterprise financial and strategic planning framework in support of the organization’s mission and long-term objectives
  • Oversee the development, execution, and monitoring of system-wide strategic initiatives, growth plans, and business development opportunities
  • Provide executive oversight and direction and execution for business development & strategy, ensuring alignment between strategy, financial performance, and mission impact
  • Serve as a trusted strategic partner to the President & CEO, Board of Directors, and executive leadership team
  • Lead financial presentations and discussions with the Board, including performance, capital strategy, and long-range financial planning
  • Direct all financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, reporting, treasury, revenue cycle, and payer strategy
  • Align financial and strategic functions with organizational goals, leveraging technology and process improvement to drive efficiency and effectiveness
  • Proactively advise leadership on financial, strategic, and market factors impacting organizational performance
  • Develop, implement, and oversee system-wide policies related to finance, accounting, budgeting, internal controls, auditing, and financial systems
  • Build, lead, and retain a high-performing finance and strategy leadership team
  • Collaborate with Human Resources and executive peers to develop effective recruitment, retention, and succession strategies
  • Coach, mentor, and develop leaders across finance and strategy functions
