Chief Engineer (Hotel Maintenance)
About The Position
The Chief Engineer manages general and preventative maintenance functions to ensure guest service and sustainability standards are achieved and maintained throughout the hotel. The role includes leading and supporting associates, overseeing vendor and financial matters, managing projects, performing and supervising repairs, maintaining equipment and building systems, and ensuring compliance with applicable codes and safety standards. The Chief Engineer maintains accurate preventative-maintenance records for guest rooms and equipment, tests and maintains life-safety systems, and helps preserve the building exterior and curb appeal in accordance with EarthView sustainability guidelines. The work schedule varies and may include weekends, holidays, or alternate shifts.
Requirements
- Previous supervisory engineer or maintenance experience, or equivalent training.
- HVAC certification.
- Other certifications may be required based on local needs.
Nice To Haves
- High school diploma and/or trade school coursework in a related field is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Interview, select, train, schedule, coach, and support associates to ensure they perform in accordance with brand standards and HHM core values.
- Manage and coordinate bids, quotes, and contracts for third-party vendors.
- Oversee small projects or Property Improvement Plans (PIPs) and report on work progress.
- Perform and oversee repairs including sheetrock repair, painting, furniture refinishing, and replacement of electrical and plumbing fixtures.
- Troubleshoot kitchen equipment and repair heating and cooling pumps.
- Install and program televisions.
- Maintain accurate preventative-maintenance records for all rooms and equipment.
- Test and maintain life-safety systems to ensure they are fully operational.
- Coordinate compliance of service contracts and ensure work meets local, state, and federal codes.
- Maintain the building exterior and curb appeal while following EarthView sustainability guidelines.
- Follow safe work practices and MSDS and OSHA standards while working to increase guest satisfaction scores.
