About The Position

We are seeking a passionate and engaging Chess Instructor to lead after-school chess classes for students in grades K-5. The instructor will be responsible for teaching chess fundamentals, strategies, and fostering a love for the game in a fun and supportive environment. Classes are held on Wednesdays from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM at a site in Maricopa, AZ, from August 5th to October 21st.

Requirements

• Proficiency in chess, including knowledge of rules, openings, tactics, and basic endgames.
• Experience working with children, preferably in an educational or recreational setting.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage a classroom of K-5 students.
• Reliable transportation to the Maricopa, AZ site.
• Availability on Wednesdays from 3:30 PM to 4:30 PM.
• Must be able to commit to the full program dates: August 5th - October 21st.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience teaching chess to children.
• Formal chess training or competitive chess background.
• Experience with curriculum development for youth programs.

Responsibilities

• Teach chess fundamentals, rules, and strategies to students in grades K-5.
• Develop and implement engaging lesson plans for each class session.
• Create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
• Manage classroom behavior and ensure student safety.
• Communicate effectively with program coordinators and site staff.
• Track student progress and provide feedback where appropriate.
