About The Position

The Chemist I is responsible for assisting with downstream processing of oligo synthesis using chromatography and analytical techniques. FPLC (Fast Protein Liquid Chromatography), HPLC, LCMS and other analytical instruments are used. This person will work on multiple projects simultaneously and stay current with new modifications of oligonucleotides.

Requirements

  • Strong laboratory skills and experience with analytical instrumentation such as AKTA, Agilent LC-MS and UPLC, Vanquish LTQ, Water’s QDA, as well as basic laboratory techniques and equipment (pipetting, mass spectrometry, chromatography) is required.
  • Basic understanding of chemistry and chromatography.
  • Strong organizational skills and time management skills.
  • Effective communication skills for collaborating with team members and conveying technical information clearly.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload to meet or exceed deadlines.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Chemical/Biomedical engineering, pharmaceutical sciences or a related field with 1 year of lab experience that may include coop or internships.

Responsibilities

  • Perform purification of oligonucleotides as needed using techniques such as FPLC and HPLC and monitoring purification processes to achieve high quality results.
  • Conduct analytical assays including LCMS to verify the quality and identity of synthesized oligonucleotides.
  • Support scientists in building and executing clean-in-place procedures, along with instrument hardware upgrades to improve workflows.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of experiments, procedures, and results using ELNS. Ensure all documentation is compliant with company standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of the laboratory.
  • Work closely with senior chemists and other team members to support ongoing projects.
  • Use general laboratory equipment including but not limited to pipettors, centrifuges, incubators, biological safety cabinets and balances.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and suggest technical solutions to clients and management.
  • Follow the guidelines set forth with clients and Company Quality, Health, Safety, Security and Environmental policies and procedures.
  • Comply with clients’ and Company management systems in accordance with appropriate regulatory agencies.
  • Other duties as defined by the Manager, department needs and workload.
