About The Position

This position is responsible for trade compliance and regulatory compliance matters related to raw materials and finished products across our chemical businesses. The role serves as a key partner to sourcing, supply chain, manufacturing, product stewardship, and commercial teams to help ensure materials and products move efficiently across borders while meeting applicable import, export, and chemical regulatory requirements. This individual supports accurate tariff classification, country of origin determinations, import documentation, and ongoing regulatory processes that reduce risk, maintain compliance, and enable business continuity. Success in this role requires strong attention to detail, the ability to interpret technical and regulatory information, and a proactive approach to collaborating across functions to support a complex global chemical portfolio.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (chemistry or chemical engineering is preferred)
  • Technical or manufacturing experience with chemical products and general chemistry knowledge.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a cross functional team to support business functions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs.
  • Ability to read and interpret regulations with a focus on long term implications.
  • Strong communication skills (written and oral), teamwork, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
  • Collaboration skills to work cross-functionally with sourcing and supply chain to make and assign Country of Origin determinations.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with SAP or equivalent ERP systems and the ability to learn how to use GTS to enter and maintain global Tariff Code Assignments.
  • Experience with Milliken chemistries, products, and supply chains.
  • Basic understanding of US Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA).
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize appropriately, and track progress.
  • Ability to learn how to read and interpret the Harmonized Tariff Schedule and the appropriate Section and Chapter notes, as well as other online classification tools (Customs Ruling Online Search System, CROSS).
  • Ability to learn to assign Tariff Codes based on knowledge of chemical composition, end uses and product literature.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure global trade and regulatory compliance for chemical businesses.
  • Determine and document tariff codes in SAP GTS (Global Trade System).
  • Complete TSCA import certifications for chemical imports.
  • Evaluate Bills of Material and product supply chain to determine and document Country of Origin.
  • Develop and maintain import and export procedures and training and serve as a liaison with our global locations to assist with imports as necessary.
  • Collaborate with outside counsel when necessary to obtain guidance on tariff codes and rulings.
  • Coordinate / participate in labelling considerations as they relate to Country of Origin.
  • Develop and complete routine audits of the tariff data to ensure there are no errors.
  • Assist with trade actions as they arise.
  • Assist with GTS projects that will improve system use and create efficiencies.
  • Assist with general trade support as needed, including responding to customer inquiries, supporting internal stakeholders on trade-related issues, etc.
