About The Position

The Chef Assistant supports the in-house Chef at Two Meeting Street Inn, a small, member-exclusive bed and breakfast in historic downtown Charleston. The role involves preparing, cooking, and serving breakfast items and daily happy-hour small bites for a maximum occupancy of fewer than 20 guests. Breakfast is served from 8–10 a.m. and happy hour from 4–6 p.m.

This is a customer-facing position in a small house kitchen, not a hotline role. The assistant may interact professionally with Club members while completing daily kitchen tasks. When the Chef is off or unavailable, the assistant must be able to plan, prepare, and execute dishes independently, with attention to detail and fine-dining quality. Shifts vary between mornings and evenings, with no work scheduled after 7 p.m. The position may be full-time or part-time. Uniforms are provided and the dress code is enforced.

Requirements

• Ability to multitask in a small house kitchen.
• Ability to execute recipes from the Head Chef.
• Upscale plating experience.
• Ability to plan, prep, and execute food independently with attention to detail and fine-dining quality.
• Positive, team-oriented attitude.
• Ability to work variable morning or evening shifts, with no work after 7 p.m.

Responsibilities

• Assist the in-house Chef with preparing, cooking, and serving breakfast items and happy-hour small bites.
• Plan, prep, and execute recipes provided by the Head Chef.
• Work independently to plan, prepare, and execute food when the Chef is off or unavailable.
• Grocery shop.
• Wash and polish dishes.
• Take out trash and maintain a clean, professional work area.
• Multitask while completing kitchen duties and interacting professionally with Club members as needed.
