Sentara Leigh Hospital Chaplaincy is currently hiring a Part-time, Day Shift Chaplain. This role coordinates the provision of spiritual care throughout the hospital for patients, families, and staff. The Chaplain develops, implements, and evaluates the spiritual plan of care through a spiritual assessment, and educates staff in the provision of spiritual care. They coordinate and collaborate with multi-disciplinary team members to facilitate comprehensive and integrated holistic care of patients and families, including clinical ethics. The role involves documenting patient care concerns and interventions, contributing to hospital committees, and offering expertise in cultural/faith diversity, advance care planning, major life transitions, end-of-life medical decision-making, and grief processes. The Chaplain works in a multi-staff and culturally diverse setting, providing spiritual support and counsel to patients and their family members. They also work with staff, clergy, and community groups to enhance sensitivity to the spiritual concerns of patients/families experiencing terminal illness and loss. Responsibilities include performing liturgical assignments, developing and maintaining a resource group of clergy, and providing educational programs for community clergy and representatives. The Chaplain completes bereavement assessments, manages the bereavement services program, plans and supervises bereavement group events, and oversees the volunteer component of bereavement services. They conduct the bereavement section of the interdisciplinary team conference and develop new bereavement programs, services, educational programs, and materials. The role ensures the bereavement care plan meets patient/family needs according to regulatory requirements. Additionally, the Chaplain provides in-service education for staff on assigned clinical units and other areas as needed. They support holistic healing by providing information/assistance to local faith community leaders. The Chaplain plans care based on assessment, evaluates patient progress, revises care, and assesses patient/family learning needs, planning and providing education. They develop assessments that reflect physical, psychological, socio-cultural, spiritual, and cognitive needs, and identify and respond appropriately to ethical issues in patient care, respecting patient diversity and rights. The Chaplain responds to bereavement and crisis needs with appropriate assessment, services, and referral. They conduct regular rounds on assigned clinical areas, conduct religious or spiritual rites and services, and engage in interdisciplinary review of ethics consultations. The role involves documenting ethics consultations and interventions, achieving certification as an Ethics Consultant, and supporting the Palliative Care team in goals of care discussions. The Chaplain conducts new employee orientation regarding Chaplaincy Services and participates in department educational offerings. They actively participate as a member of the ethics consultation services of the Clinical Ethics Committee and provide CISM interventions as needed.
