About The Position

Delivers chaplaincy care to patients, their loved ones and staff, as appropriate. Ensures that religious and spiritual needs of patients and their loved ones are met in assigned areas.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience, required.
  • 4 completed units of CPE, required

Nice To Haves

  • Current Association of Professional Chaplains Certification, or Current National Association of Catholic Chaplains Certification, or Current Neshama: Association of Jewish Chaplains Certification preferred, plus specialized certifications as needed.
  • BCC, preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Applies hospital patient care standards and pastoral care departmental goals in all patient car activities; offers religious and spiritual guidance to patients/families and staff.
  • Provides input, as needed, in patient’s interdisciplinary plan of care; demonstrates proficiency in identified counseling skills required in Direct patient care.
  • Manages time appropriately to meet patient/family needs.
  • Promotes a professional atmosphere through courteous communication with patient’s families, physicians and peers; attends/participates in departmental meetings and reviews minutes of all meetings not attended.
  • Maintains and develops professional competence through required in-service and educational programs; complies with hospital dress code and maintains a professional image.
  • Maintains satisfactory attendance record; reports for duty punctually; introduces self to patient and/or family; stops to offer assistance to anyone who appears lost or confused and displays a positive attitude in all dealings with patients, visitors and staff.
  • Listens courteously to patient/family concerns; services the needs of families of deceased patients as required by staff.
  • Regularly visits with patients while giving priority to those in greatest need (as determined by goals and objectives); establishes positive working relationship with all members of the health team as well as with the volunteers.
  • Keeps records as required; facilitates the celebration of the sacraments as appropriate to his or her clinical status; is available for Memorial services/Funerals.
  • Operates under general guidance and work assignments are varied and require interpretation and independent decisions on course of action.
