About The Position

This is a non-merit, temporary position at the Iowa Veterans Home. The role involves providing traditional chaplaincy services, including religious services, pastoral care at the bedside, conducting memorials and funerals, and participating in ceremonies and special events. The Chaplain will offer professional services in chaplaincy, crisis intervention, and counseling for spiritual, emotional, moral, personal, family, and grief issues. This position requires collaboration with the full-time Chaplain in planning and implementing services, providing spiritual support for various denominations, conducting one-on-one visitations, and maintaining documentation. Applicants must pass a Criminal Background Check, Dependent Adult Abuse Check, and Child Abuse Check. The State of Iowa participates in E-Verify and complies with Right to Work laws.

Requirements

• Must have an Ecclesiastical Endorsement.
• Must have a Master of Divinity (MDiv).
• Must have at least 1 unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE).
• Must have experience supporting people of varying faith or no faith based backgrounds.
• Must pass a Criminal Background Check.
• Must pass a Dependent Adult Abuse Check.
• Must pass a Child Abuse Check.

Responsibilities

• Provide traditional chaplaincy services, including services and scheduled provision for communion.
• Provide delivery of pastoral care to the bedside.
• Conduct memorials, funerals, or other special services when requested/required.
• Participate in civil and patriotic ceremonies as well as other special events at the Iowa Veterans Home when requested.
• Provide professional services in chaplaincy, crisis intervention, and counseling regarding spiritual, emotional, moral, personal, family, and grief issues.
• Work collaboratively with the full-time Chaplain planning and implementing Sunday services.
• Provide spiritual support of other denominations and services held at IVH.
• Conduct 1:1 visitation with residents, families, and staff.
• Maintain timely documentation of attendance and services provided.
