About The Position

Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) is seeking a Change & Improvement Specialist to join the Medical Quality Leadership & Practice, Medicine and Academic Affairs team. This role is crucial in supporting medical staff to enhance their capacity and capability to proactively improve clinical practice and healthcare quality. Reporting to the SQI Manager, the Specialist will embed change management approaches into business operations and foster an improvement culture. They will collaborate with medical and operational leaders across the health authority, providing expertise in change and improvement principles, practices, and tools. The Specialist will be a key member of an interdisciplinary team dedicated to improving patient outcomes and quality, working closely with medical leaders, executives, senior management, Quality and Patient Safety staff, Data Analytics staff, and project team members across VCH and Providence Health Care. This work aligns with VCH’s commitments to Indigenous Cultural Safety, Anti-Racism, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion, and Planetary Health.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Health Administration, Health Planning, Business Administration, Behavioural Sciences, or equivalent.
  • Five (5) to seven (7) years’ recent, related experience in utilizing the methodology and tools of continuous improvement to support process improvement and system redesign, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge of change management and project management principles and methodologies and ability to coach team members on these skills.
  • Demonstrates an open & experimental mindset to facilitate problem solving through innovation, creativity, and flexibility to frame and reframe a problem.
  • Knowledge of and experience in applying quality improvement methodologies, techniques, and tools.
  • Demonstrated effective leadership, facilitation, and coaching skills at all levels of organization.
  • Demonstrated experience and ability to work with and support leadership, medical staff, clinicians, and their teams.
  • Demonstrate the ability to utilize effective facilitation, persuasion, and negotiation to achieve consensus, resolve conflict and achieve desired outcomes.
  • Demonstrate the strong ability to synthesize ideas & discussions, capture them succinctly in documents & artifacts, and use visualization for effective communication.
  • Demonstrated knowledgeable of the framework and application of International Association for Public Participation (IAP2).
  • Develops and maintains strong relationships with key internal and external partners to promote and enhance services provided with sensitivity to diversity and indigenous lens.
  • Practices the recognition, inclusion and support of all types and aspects of diversity at all stages of engagement, with an understanding of the issues faced by people from equity-deserving groups.
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate and cultivate partnerships and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and leadership across various programs and services.
  • Utilizes strategic and independent thinking and creative problem-solving abilities to move projects forward and realize project completion.
  • Sound interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively, both verbally, and in writing.
  • Works effectively under time pressure to meet deadlines, balance work priorities, and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Certified change management, quality improvement and/or project management are assets.
  • In this role, travel within the local and geographic area may require the use of a vehicle.
