About The Position

Instruction in small ensemble performance, such as string quartets, woodwind quintets, piano trios, percussion ensembles, and mixed chamber groups. This role requires a minimum of two hours of coaching per week. The contract period is from September 2026 to April 2027. The estimated course enrollment anticipates two string sections, which will be further subdivided into multiple chamber ensemble sections based on student enrollment and assigned by the coordinator. The hiring of coaches will consider instrument specialization needs as determined by the coordinator in consultation with the Performance Office. TA support is provided.

Requirements

  • Graduate degree in performance or equivalent professional experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of chamber music repertoire and materials.
  • Active performance career.
  • Demonstrated excellence teaching chamber music at the university level.

Nice To Haves

  • In the interest of ensuring diverse coaching expertise, no instructor will be assigned more than one chamber ensemble.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one hour of coaching each week with the assigned chamber ensemble (time to be determined).
  • Attend scheduled masterclasses.
  • Participate in the coaching and evaluation of students in the course.
  • Arrange a suitable substitute if a conflict arises with attending a scheduled masterclass, in consultation with the Chamber Music Coordinators.
