The CGMBS Training Program is a 52-week program of documented didactic and practical laboratory training in a CLIA-licensed laboratory. It prepares qualified employees to enter the clinical molecular genetics workforce as professional molecular genetics biologist scientists who can work independently and interpret, implement, and troubleshoot established procedures. Trainees are full-time employees classified as trainees and receive applicable wages and benefits. The trainee reports directly to the program director or designee. The program develops and evaluates scientific knowledge and competencies in laboratory recordkeeping, quality control, reagent preparation, laboratory safety, molecular biology, nucleic acid extraction, detection, hybridization, amplification, DNA/RNA library preparation, genetic nomenclature, DNA sequencing, microarray techniques, and clinical testing techniques such as Sanger sequencing, next-generation sequencing, and PCR. It also provides instruction in state clinical laboratory laws and regulations, CLIA regulations, legal and ethical responsibilities, professional conduct, and communication skills. This opportunity is for internal applicants only. Applicants must submit a request for admission to the program Education Coordinator. Selection is based on application evaluations and departmental needs. Selected applicants will be notified, and training will begin on an agreed-upon date due to rolling admissions. Final program acceptance is contingent upon obtaining a Clinical Genetic Molecular Biologist Scientist Trainee License.
