Located at 10031 Nash Road, VCU Health Chesterfield Pavilion will be a four-story, approximately 100,000-square-foot ambulatory surgery center and medical office building, bringing comprehensive, patient-centered outpatient care closer to residents in one of Virginia’s largest counties. Scheduled to open in April 2027, the state-of-the-art facility will bring together surgical services, diagnostics, infusion therapy, pharmacy services, innovative care models, and more in a single, convenient location for Chesterfield residents. Terms and conditions apply The Surgical Technologist II (operating room scrub technician) sets up sterile field, gathers supplies for surgical cases, based on knowledge of instruments and equipment to be used. This position passes instruments to surgeons during surgery. This position also performs count procedures per policy during surgical cases. The Surgical Technologist II serves as a resource and preceptor to less experienced Surgical Technologists and takes call for routine and high acuity cases after orientation period. This role also learns, performs and completes assignments/responsibilities assigned during the transitional duty period.

Requirements

  • Registered by the State Board of Medicine and Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Tech in Surgery-Certified (TS-C) or Certified Operating Room or Surgical Technician (CORST) certification.
  • Current AHA, BLS, HCP Certification
  • Current CST; TS-C or CORST required
  • Minimum of 6 months experience as a Surgical Technologist or related scrub tech position.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Graduate of a Surgical Technology Program or a military training program or Licensed Practical Nursing Program

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years experience as a surgical technologist or related scrub technician position.
  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology Program

Responsibilities

  • Sets up sterile field, gathers supplies for surgical cases, based on knowledge of instruments and equipment to be used.
  • Passes instruments to surgeons during surgery.
  • Performs count procedures per policy during surgical cases.
  • Serves as a resource and preceptor to less experienced Surgical Technologists.
  • Takes call for routine and high acuity cases after orientation period.
  • Learns, performs and completes assignments/responsibilities assigned during the transitional duty period.
  • Functions under the direction of RN or independent practitioner in providing direct patient care, emotional support and problem solving, all in accordance with hospital, nursing and unit policies and procedures.
  • Requires prior approval or guidance from supervisor for time/schedule changes, legal issues, direct care which deviates from the standard and identification of educational resources to meet developmental needs.
  • Job duties may include the handling, transportation, access to and/or contact with medications and related supplies.
