About The Position

Pediatric Developmental Services (PDS) is hiring a Certified Nursing Assistant to support a student in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. The CNA will serve as the student’s aide on the bus and work with the school nurse, providing care and helping maintain the student’s safety in accordance with nursing plans and medical orders. The role includes monitoring the student for signs of hypoglycemia and seizure activity, performing a finger-stick blood glucose check when indicated, and administering treatments or medication when specified in the student’s nursing plan and medical orders. The CNA will also monitor and troubleshoot the student’s g-tube feeding pump during bus rides, provide basic care when students are injured or ill, support management of chronic conditions, and promote healthy habits among students and staff.

Responsibilities

Provide basic care for students who are injured or ill and help manage chronic conditions.
Educate students and staff about healthy habits, including hygiene and proper nutrition.
Work with school staff to support the physical and emotional safety of the school community.
Follow the RN-created plan to monitor for signs of hypoglycemia.
Perform a finger-stick blood glucose check if signs of hypoglycemia are noted.
Administer orange juice via g-tube when indicated by the nursing plan and medical orders.
Monitor the g-tube feeding pump during bus rides for kinks, occlusions, or other issues, and troubleshoot as outlined in the nursing plan.
Monitor for signs of seizure activity and follow the nursing plan and medical orders to maintain student safety and time the seizure.
Give sublingual medication when indicated by the nursing plan and medical orders.
Work as the student’s aide on the bus and coordinate with the school nurse.
