About The Position

Salem Crossing provides a free Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training program for people who are committed to providing compassionate care to residents; no previous experience is required. The program includes two weeks of training: 30 hours of classroom work and 45 hours of hands-on clinical training. Participants receive support from instructors, nurses, and CNAs. After completing the program and testing, participants can apply for a CNA position at one of American Senior Communities’ 100 locations across Indiana. Further pathways are available for those who want to advance their nursing careers.

CNAs support residents with personal care, meals, mobility, vital signs, call-light requests, and companionship. The program offers a free textbook, one-on-one instructor time, study materials, a uniform, and state testing. American Senior Communities also offers additional career-development opportunities, including tuition and certification reimbursement, college and university partnerships, paid training, and career development.

Requirements

• Commitment to providing compassionate care to residents.
• No previous experience is required to participate in the training program.
• Complete two weeks of training, including 30 hours of classroom instruction and 45 hours of hands-on clinical training.
• Complete the CNA program and testing to pursue a CNA position.

Responsibilities

• Assist residents with bathing, dressing, grooming, hair care, tooth brushing, and shaving.
• Help residents at mealtimes, including transporting them to the dining room and assisting with eating and drinking.
• Reposition and transfer residents between beds, wheelchairs, and toilets.
• Obtain and record resident vital signs, such as heart rate and blood pressure, and other observations.
• Answer resident call lights and help fulfill requests.
• Build meaningful relationships with residents and provide companionship.
