About The Position
BayPointe Hospital is a psychiatric acute care facility in Mobile, Alabama serving children, adolescents, and adults experiencing psychiatric crises. Its programs provide 24-hour clinical care and structured, developmentally appropriate therapeutic services, with the goal of helping consumers return home or move to the least restrictive level of care. Consumers, families, caregivers, and other appropriate partners may participate in treatment and discharge planning. The Certified Nursing Assistant provides daily patient care and observation on an assigned unit, including care for consumers who are totally dependent. The role performs clinical support tasks under the direction of a licensed nurse, monitors and documents consumer behavior and progress, assists with personal care and daily living skills, and uses de-escalation principles to help manage crisis situations. The position may work on any unit at BayPointe or EastPointe according to facility needs.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Current Certified Nursing Assistant credential in Alabama.
- Ability to meet the described physical requirements, including lifting up to 50 pounds, maintaining strong grasp, and moving quickly to assist coworkers during restraint procedures.
Responsibilities
- Obtain vital signs, perform blood sugar testing and EKGs, monitor intake and output, and assist consumers with activities of daily living under the direction of a licensed nurse.
- Provide ongoing monitoring and interaction with consumers, including one-to-one coverage for consumers on special status as assigned.
- Assess consumer behavior daily and record and submit information according to policy and standards.
- Assist consumers with personal care, activities, current events, and safety issues.
- Provide training in basic living skills according to consumers’ psychiatric rehabilitation goals.
- Recognize crisis situations and de-escalate or resolve them using appropriate principles.
- Collaborate effectively with treatment team members and communicate with staff.
- Work on any BayPointe or EastPointe unit as facility needs require.
- Model appropriate behavior, including communication, grooming, and manners.
- Meet AltaPointe productivity standards and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
- Document services, activities, consumer problems, daily progress, basic living skills progress, and treatment goals clearly, legibly, and promptly according to policy.
- Report accidents or driving violations to the supervisor and Human Resources.
- Accept and employ suggestions for improvement and actively enhance skills.
- Participate in Performance Improvement activities and AltaPointe committees as required.
- Follow AltaPointe policies and procedures and attend appropriate in-service training and workshops.
- Seek supervision and consultation as needed.
- Treat consumers with care, dignity, and compassion; respect privacy and confidentiality; and respond sensitively and calmly to consumers and families.
- Assist consumers and visitors as needed and cooperate pleasantly with others.
- Perform additional duties assigned by the supervisor.
