About The Position

This is a Part-Time Instructor Pool position in the Continuing Education Workforce Development (CEWD) department for available assignments during the academic year. The position is limited to no more than 19 hours per week. Applications are reviewed throughout the academic year based on departmental needs. The instructor will teach Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) courses, providing quality instruction in a safe environment. Responsibilities include evaluating teaching effectiveness, adhering to Texas Health and Human Services regulations for Nurse Aide Training Programs, assisting with curriculum development, coordinating clinicals/classes, managing schedules, ordering textbooks, and aiding with graduate job placement. The role requires instructing and supervising a diverse student population in various settings (day, night, or weekend) and demonstrating a commitment to student engagement, success, and instructional excellence.

Requirements

  • Hold a current State of Texas nursing license.
  • Have completed a course that focuses on teaching adult students or have experience teaching adult students or have experience supervising nurse aides.
  • One (1) year of nursing experience in a long-term care facility.
  • Must have current, valid Driver’s License.
  • Must have a current, negative Tuberculosis (TB) test result.
  • Basic computer proficiency using Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Basic proficiency in online tools such as Blackboard.
  • Must be flexible with the ability to work days, nights, and/or weekends.
  • Ability to travel to work related locations using personal vehicle.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree or higher in Nursing.
  • Experience teaching adult learners.
  • Two (2) years of licensed nursing experience providing direct patient care in a long-term care facility or skilled nursing facility.
  • Bilingual - English/Spanish (Speak).

Responsibilities

  • Teach a variety of Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) courses and provide quality instruction in a safe environment.
  • Evaluate effectiveness in the classroom by helping students obtain course learning outcomes and assessing their impact on student retention.
  • Adhere to all Texas Health and Human Services rules and regulations pertaining to Nurse Aide Training Programs and the Nurse Aide rules in the Texas Administrative Code Title 26, Part 1, Chapter 556.
  • Assist with curriculum development as set forth by the Texas Health and Human Services and the Nurse Aide Training and Competency Evaluation Program (NATCEP), including educational materials and management forms.
  • Coordinate clinicals/classes.
  • Manage class schedules.
  • Order textbooks.
  • Assist with graduate job placement.
  • Instruct and supervise a diverse population of students in the classroom at various times and locations (day, night, or weekend).
  • Possess a commitment to student engagement, student success, and instructional excellence.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Prepare and utilize a course syllabus and assessments for each course using guidelines established by the institution.
  • Maintain current knowledge of effective teaching methodologies and utilize a variety of instructional delivery methods, classroom media, and educational resources.
  • Assist in the recruitment and retention of students.
  • Advise students in academic matters or refer students to appropriate resources.
  • Assess students' performance through a range of measurement activities and keep them informed of their progress in a timely manner.
  • Engage students face-to-face and through electronic communications.
  • Utilize technology to facilitate learning and to access data, maintain records, generate reports, and communicate with others.
  • Assist in the development, distribution, and collection of assessments for courses and program objectives.
  • Build positive and professional relationships with students, colleagues, college administration, and the community.
  • Submit timely college reports and forms to the appropriate divisions and departments.
  • Provide recommendations to the Instructional Dean, Department Chair, and appropriate college committees regarding curriculum, instruction, and division operations.
  • Exhibit a commitment to lifelong learning through participation in professional development activities.
  • Adhere to Alvin College’s policies and procedures.
  • Attend institutional meetings as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
