About The Position

This position provides adult residents with assistance in their daily living. Certified Nurse’s Assistants and caregivers lend support to the Licensed Vocational Nurses in the medical necessities of all residents. The role actively supports the basic rights of all residents, striving to develop a "best friend" relationship with each resident. It requires understanding individual life stories and providing care focused on each resident's unique needs, while upholding the Masonic Home Way Pillars philosophy. The position involves performing essential nursing assistant skills related to ADL care, nutrition, hydration, toileting, incontinent care, and vital signs, adapting care to resident strengths and assisting with maintaining a safe and orderly environment. Responsibilities also include assisting residents with linens, housekeeping tasks, transportation, and meal selection, while monitoring for any issues related to meals and food intake. Ensuring resident safety through a secure environment and appropriate behavioral interventions is crucial. The role includes assisting residents with self-administration of medication, documenting this assistance, and reporting any problems or refusals to the RCFE Health Service Manager. Support and guidance for blood sugar monitoring and other basic care needs are also part of the duties. The position requires completing all required documentation related to medications, including refills and reordering from the pharmacy. Maintaining awareness of resident health and informing appropriate staff of any incidents or changes in resident conditions is essential. Obtaining and documenting vital signs, reporting unusual readings, and documenting resident care, behavior, and special needs are required. The role also involves attending scheduled staff meetings and ensuring residents' rights to fair treatment, self-determination, individuality, privacy, property, and civil rights are maintained. Preserving the dignity and self-respect of residents is paramount. Communication and cooperation with co-workers and other departments, practicing good teamwork, and maintaining regular attendance and punctuality are expected.

Requirements

  • Maintain a current non-restricted California Driver's License.
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant in the state of California.
  • CPR and First Aid certified.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience, knowledge, and training in congregated living of health care environment providing services to the elderly is preferred.
  • Computer and keyboard skills required.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills required.
  • Knowledge of Title 22, Division 6 & Division 12 desirable.

  • Adapt care giving to build on individual resident strengths and abilities.
  • Assist residents to maintain a safe clean and orderly environment.
  • Assist residents with linens, bed making, dish washing, trash, and laundry as needed.
  • Assist residents with transportation to meals, activities, beauty shop, and medical appointments.
  • Supervise and account for residents in the dining room.
  • Assist residents to make menu selections.
  • Monitor residents for problems related to meals and food intake, report problems.
  • Assist residents with cleanliness, grooming, and nourishment needs.
  • Ensure safety of residents by maintaining a safe environment and using appropriate behavioral intervention techniques.
  • Assist resident’s self-administration of medication as needed.
  • Document medication assistance provided.
  • Report problems or refusal of medications to RCFE Health Service Manager.
  • Provide support and guidance to residents for blood sugar monitoring and other assistance with adaptive equipment or basic care.
  • Complete all required documentation related to centrally stored medications, medication refills, etc.
  • Reorder medications from pharmacy.
  • Maintain awareness of resident health.
  • Inform appropriate staff (LVN, RCFE Health Service Manager) of any incidents or changes in resident conditions, such as attitude, appearance, appetite, behavior and/or physical ability.
  • Obtain Vital Signs, document and report unusual readings to LVN.
  • Document resident care, behavior and special needs as required by policy and procedure.
  • Attend scheduled staff or campus meetings, in-services, and events.
  • Ensure that all residents’ rights to fair and equitable treatment, self-determination, individuality, privacy, property and civil rights, including the right to wage a complaint, are well established and maintained at all times.
  • Always preserve the dignity and self-respect of the residents.
  • Perform other related functions as requested by the LVN or RCFE Health Service Manager.
  • Communicates and cooperates with co-workers and residents.
  • Establishes good working relationships with all departments.
  • Practices good teamwork.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality.
