About The Position

The Certified Medical Assistant works closely with a primary care physician to provide patient care within the Medical Assisting scope and applicable state guidelines. The role includes reviewing and updating health records, measuring vital signs, and preparing treatment rooms for examinations. The position also supports patients and the community through respectful service and performs related clerical duties.

Requirements

• High school degree or GED.
• Active Medical Assisting certification from an accepted organization: CMA, RMA, CCMA, NRCMA, or NCMA.
• If unable to obtain MA certification, Assessment-Based Recognition in Order Entry (ABR-OE) is acceptable, except in South Carolina.
• BLS Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association is required at hire for Roper St Francis Healthcare locations; preferred at hire and required before independent patient care at BSMH.
• Problem-solving skills and basic computer skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to engage with staff and patients professionally.

Nice To Haves

• One year of medical assistant healthcare experience (preferred, not required).
• Two years of clerical experience in a physician’s office (preferred, not required).
• BLS Basic Life Support certification at hire is preferred at BSMH locations.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and community members respectfully and provide excellent customer service.
• Prepare and review patient charts for upcoming visits, verifying that diagnostic test results, hospital reports, and other medical records are correct and current.
• Measure vital signs, including pulse, respiration, blood pressure, weight, and height.
• Perform clerical duties such as checking inventory, stocking supplies, tracking referrals, and answering phones as needed.
• Troubleshoot and resolve problems promptly.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
