About The Position

The Certified Medical Assistant works closely with a primary care physician to deliver patient care within the medical assisting scope of practice and applicable state guidelines. The role includes maintaining and reviewing health records, measuring vital signs, and preparing treatment rooms for examinations. The position is in the Obstetrics/Gynecology Physicians department at MHP Kentucky Specialty Care.

Requirements

• High school degree or GED.
• Active medical assisting certification from one of the following: Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from the American Association of Medical Assistants; Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) from American Medical Technologists; Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) from the National Healthcareer Association; Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) from the National Association for Health Professionals; or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) from the National Center for Competency Testing.
• If unable to obtain medical assistant certification, an Assessment-Based Recognition in Order Entry (ABR-OE) is acceptable; this is not accepted in South Carolina.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is required at hire for Roper St. Francis Healthcare locations; preferred at hire and required before independent patient care at BSMH.
• Problem-solving skills, basic computer skills, and excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Engage with staff and patients in a professional manner.

Nice To Haves

• One year of medical assistant healthcare experience.
• Two years of clerical experience in a physician’s office.
• BLS certification at hire for BSMH.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients and community members respectfully and provide excellent customer service.
• Prepare and review patient charts for upcoming visits, verifying that diagnostic test results, hospital reports, and other medical records are correct and up to date.
• Measure vital signs, including pulse rate, respiration, blood pressure, weight, and height.
• Perform departmental clerical duties, including checking inventory, stocking supplies, tracking referrals, and answering phones as needed.
• Troubleshoot and resolve problems promptly.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
