About The Position

MUSC Community Physicians (MCP), an entity within the Medical University of South Carolina, provides healthcare to patients across South Carolina's rural health network. The Certified Medical Assistant performs multi-skilled activities in support of a decentralized, patient-centered approach to care and helps achieve desired patient outcomes. Under a physician's direction, the role assists with patient examinations and treatment. The Certified Medical Assistant reports to the Outpatient Clinic Manager.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Certification as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through AMT, AAMA, NHA, MedCA, or NAHP.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (or an AHA-recognized equivalent) or American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
• Basic computer skills.
• Maintain required annual competencies.
• Ability to understand and implement detailed instructions for therapeutic procedures and make accurate physical observations of patients.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

• Completion of an accredited medical assisting program.
• One year of patient care experience.

Responsibilities

• Interview patients.
• Measure and record or enter patient vital signs, including pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height.
• Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations.
• Assist physicians with examination and treatment of patients.
