About The Position

MUSC Community Physicians (MCP), an entity within the Medical University of South Carolina, provides healthcare to patients in South Carolina’s rural health network. The Certified Medical Assistant performs multi-skilled activities in support of a decentralized, patient-centered approach to care and assists with patient examinations and treatment under a physician’s direction.

The role reports to the Outpatient Clinic Manager. The assistant interviews patients, measures and records vital signs, enters information in medical records, and prepares examination rooms. The position requires basic computer skills, maintaining annual competencies, understanding and carrying out detailed instructions for therapeutic procedures, making accurate physical observations, and communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Certification through AMT, AAMA, NHA, MedCA, or NAHP as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), as applicable.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS), either AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers or an AHA-recognized equivalent, or American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to understand and implement detailed instructions for therapeutic procedures.
• Ability to make accurate physical observations of patients.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

• Completion of an accredited medical assisting program.
• One year of patient care experience.

Responsibilities

• Interview patients.
• Measure vital signs, including pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height.
• Record or enter patient information in medical records.
• Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations.
• Assist with patient examinations and treatment under the direction of a physician.
• Maintain required annual competencies.
