About The Position

MUSC Community Physicians (MCP), an entity within the Medical University of South Carolina, provides healthcare to patients throughout South Carolina's rural health network. The Certified Medical Assistant supports a decentralized, patient-centered approach to care and helps achieve desired patient outcomes. Under the direction of a physician, the role assists with patient examinations and treatment. The position reports to the Outpatient Clinic Manager.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Certification through AMT, AAMA, NHA, MedCA, or NAHP as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), as applicable.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) for Healthcare Providers or an AHA-recognized equivalent, or American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
Basic computer skills.
Ability to understand and carry out a variety of detailed instructions for therapeutic procedures.
Ability to make accurate physical observations of patients.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

Completion of an accredited medical assisting program.
One year of patient care experience.

Responsibilities

Interview patients.
Measure vital signs, including pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height.
Record or enter patient information into medical records.
Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations.
Support patient examination and treatment under a physician's direction.
Maintain required annual competencies.
