About The Position

MUSC Community Physicians (MCP), an entity within the Medical University of South Carolina, provides healthcare throughout South Carolina’s rural health network. The Certified Medical Assistant performs multi-skilled activities to support a decentralized, patient-centered approach to care and achieve desired outcomes. Under the direction of a physician, the assistant supports patient examinations and treatment. The position reports to the Outpatient Clinic Manager and is scheduled for 40 hours per week.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Certification through AMT, AAMA, NHA, MedCA, or NAHP as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), as applicable.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification: AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers or an AHA-recognized equivalent, or American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
Basic computer skills.
Ability to understand and implement detailed instructions for therapeutic procedures and accurately observe patients physically.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

Completion of an accredited medical assisting program.
One year of patient care experience.

Responsibilities

Interview patients.
Measure and record vital signs, including pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height.
Record or enter patient information in medical records.
Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations.
Assist with examination and treatment of patients under a physician’s direction.
Maintain required annual competencies.
