About The Position

MUSC Community Physicians (MCP), an entity within the Medical University of South Carolina, provides healthcare to patients throughout South Carolina's rural health network. The Certified Medical Assistant performs multi-skilled activities that support a decentralized, patient-centered approach to care and help achieve desired outcomes. Under the direction of a physician, the role assists with patient examinations and treatment. The position reports to the Outpatient Clinic Manager.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Basic computer skills.
Ability to understand and implement detailed instructions for therapeutic procedures.
Ability to make accurate physical observations of patients.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Certification through AMT, AAMA, NHA, MedCA, or NAHP as a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), as applicable.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification: AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers or an AHA-recognized equivalent, or American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.

Nice To Haves

Completion of an accredited medical assisting program.
One year of patient care experience.

Responsibilities

Interview patients.
Measure and record vital signs, including pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height.
Record or enter patient information in medical records.
Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations.
Assist with patient examinations and treatment under a physician's direction.
Maintain required annual competencies.
