About The Position

The Certified Medical Assistant is an integral member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team and provides direct patient care. This role performs routine administrative and supportive patient-care duties in a Health System medical practice, assisting medical and nursing staff with patient examinations and treatment and helping ensure the clinic or office runs smoothly.

Requirements

Required healthcare experience.
Required certification through one of the following: Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (National Healthcareer Association), Certified Medical Assistant (American Association of Medical Assistants), Medical Assistant (American Medical Technologist), or National Certified Medical Assistant (National Center for Competency Testing).
Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association is required.
Computer knowledge.
Ability to demonstrate strong interpersonal skills when interacting with patients, patients’ families and visitors, clinical staff, and providers at all levels.
Ability to work accurately and with attention to detail.
Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
Phlebotomy skills and experience.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent.
At least 1 year of related customer-facing experience.

Responsibilities

Accompany patients to exam rooms and prepare them for examinations.
Perform and document vital signs.
Assist with procedures.
Prepare and administer medications with physician authorization.
Perform EKGs.
Use CPR skills when required.
Draw blood.
Provide patient education about office policies, medications, disease management, home treatments, and special diets.
Stock exam rooms, clean rooms and instruments, and dispose of biohazard waste according to OSHA standards.
Perform accurate, legal, and ethical documentation at all times.
Adhere to HIPAA guidelines and regulations.
