About The Position

In accordance with the Medical Board of California, works under general supervision of the clinic physicians supported by the clinic nursing supervisor, clinic manager, clinic mid-levels and RN, in a controlled outpatient care area and performs a variety of duties. This position is represented by RCHEA. The Certified Medical Assistant will assist practitioners and RNs with basic administrative, clerical, and technical supportive services and procedures under the supervision of a licensed physician, podiatrist, or their designee. This role also involves cross-training for front office functions and filling in as needed. The position requires maintaining competencies, licenses, certifications, and education requirements as outlined by local administration, Adventist Health (AH), The Joint Commission (TJC), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and all other regulatory agencies. Confidentiality of staff, patient, and administrative information must be maintained. The role also includes maintaining lab and treatment rooms in an orderly manner, performing waived lab tests and internal quality controls, preparing samples for shipment, and preparing patients for provider exams by collecting baseline information and recording it in the patient chart. Taking patient vital signs, height, and weight measurements and recording results are also key duties. The position serves Infant, Adolescent, Adult, and Geriatric populations, demonstrating the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care and assess data reflective of patient status relative to age-specific needs.

Requirements

  • Current CPR Certification.
  • National Medical Assistant certification required.
  • Basic medical terminology preferred.
  • Must be a National Certified Medical Assistant and must maintain certificate and complete all required CEUs.
  • Frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, climbing, reaching above shoulders, sitting, walking inclines and declines, standing, talking, hearing, and performing repetitive hand motions.
  • Vision requirements include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Occasionally lift boxes and/or supplies weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Demonstrate lifting a 25-pound box from the floor.

Nice To Haves

  • Clinic-medical office experience preferred.
  • High School graduate or GED preferred.
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains lab and treatment rooms in an orderly manner.

  • Prepares patient for provider exam and collects all baseline information and records in the patient chart.
  • Takes patient vital signs, height and weight measurements.
  • Records results in patient chart.
  • Willingly performs other duties and innovations as assigned.
