About The Position

The Certified Medical Assistant functions as an integral member of the interdisciplinary healthcare team, providing direct patient care and routine administrative and patient-care support in a Health System medical practice. The role assists medical and nursing staff with examining and treating patients and helps ensure the clinic or office runs smoothly.

Requirements

At least 1 year of related customer-facing experience.
Computer knowledge.
Interpersonal skills to interact with patients, patients’ families and visitors, clinical staff, and providers at all levels.
Ability to perform with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
Phlebotomy skills and experience.
One of the following required certifications: Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (National Healthcareer Association); Certified Medical Assistant (American Association of Medical Assistants); Medical Assistant (American Medical Technologist); or National Certified Medical Assistant (National Center for Competency Testing).
Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
Healthcare experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Accompany patients to exam rooms and prepare them for examinations.
Perform and document vital signs.
Assist with procedures.
Prepare and administer medications with physician authorization.
Perform EKGs.
Use CPR skills when required.
Draw blood.
Provide patient education regarding office policies, medications, disease management, home treatments, and special diets.
Stock exam rooms; clean rooms and instruments; dispose of biohazard waste according to OSHA standards; and maintain accurate, legal, and ethical documentation.
Adhere to HIPAA guidelines and regulations.
