Certified Long-term Special Education Substitute Teacher - $206 daily
About The Position
Kokua Education is hiring certified, long-term special education substitute teachers to support partner K-12 schools in the Nashville area for the 2026–27 school year. Substitute teachers work five days per week in the same special education teaching assignment, with the option to choose among schools across the Nashville area. Applicants may begin the interview process immediately. The role pays $206 per day, with weekly paychecks, and employment is paid via W-2. Substitute teachers may also support schools where needed through lunch and recess supervision, hallway monitoring, tutoring, and test proctoring. Kokua offers professional development and support daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. The position can provide a path to permanent roles at high-performing K-12 schools.
Requirements
- At least one year of experience working with children in any setting, such as a classroom, tutoring, or coaching.
- An associate degree or at least 60 credit hours.
- Currently hold one of the following licenses: 460: SPED Modified K-12 (accepted although no longer an active credential), 145: SPED Interventionist 6-12, or 144: SPED Interventionist K-8.
- Confidence managing a classroom of students.
- Willingness to work at least three days per week.
- Pass state and federal background checks; costs are reimbursed after 10 assignments.
- Believe every child has a unique and powerful gift to share with the world.
