About The Position

Ensure the safety of all patrons by preventing drowning and minimizing injury risks through active surveillance and hazard mitigation. Respond promptly and effectively to emergencies using sound judgment and critical thinking. Enforce pool policies consistently and communicate their purpose clearly. Maintain a professional approach while working with diverse populations.

Requirements

  • Graduate from high school or general education degree.
  • American Red Cross CPR
  • American Red Cross Standard First Aid or equivalent.
  • Lifeguarding (Including Deep Water) with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and First Aid
  • Must read and interpret procedures, policies, and regulations, such as safety rules, and procedure manuals related to the school facility.
  • Write reports and correspondence as needed.
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisor, staff, and the public.
  • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of non-standard situations.
  • Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Swimming proficiency and comfort in all types of water conditions.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum of 6 months related work experience and/or training preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises swimming activities at the aquatics facility and ensures that policies, guidelines, and safety procedures are followed.
  • Warns swimmers of improper activities or danger and enforces pool regulations and water safety policies.
  • Administers first aid in the event of injury, rescues swimmers in distress or danger of drowning, and administers CPR and/or artificial respiration, if necessary.
  • Evaluate conditions for safety and initiate an aquatic emergency action plan as required.
  • Inspects pool facilities, equipment, and water to ensure they are safe and usable.
  • Supervises and assists in cleaning the pool, related facilities, and equipment and assists with chlorine residual water tests as directed.
  • Records/charts accidents and participants.
  • Instructs or assists classes in fundamentals of swimming as needed.
  • Resolves scheduling conflicts to ensure a safe pool environment when competing programs/priorities require the use of aquatic facilities.
  • Knowledge and ability to evaluate water conditions at aquatics facilities to determine any potential dangers or hazards
  • Ability to adjust programs as necessary to ensure the safety of the visitors and other staff.
  • Ability to judge and evaluate evolving dynamics of individuals participating in aquatic activities to immediately assess their capabilities and threats to their safety.
  • Knowledge of on-site protocols, operational procedures, and safety policies.
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques for providing on-site emergency medical services.
  • Distribute and collect aquatics supplies and/or equipment for activities
  • Maintain clean, orderly storage areas for supplies and equipment.
  • Notify the Evening Recreation Supervisor or building Principal of any incidents, problems or concerns.
  • Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as the supervisor may assign.
  • Adhere to all District policies and regulations.
  • Supervise participants and ensure appropriate play and responsible behavior.
