Provides radiation dose distribution plans to Radiation Oncologists, using physical data from treatment machines and patient setup. Generates plans using beam modifying blocks, wedges, and bolus material to optimize dose distribution covering tumor volume. Translates treatment plans for therapists' implementation on treatment unit. Assembles brachytherapy sources and hardware for implants. Performs radiation surveys and posts appropriate warning signs. Performs medical physics tasks under the general direction of the medical physicist, when requested. A Certified Medical Dosimetrist in the Radiation Oncology Department must be capable of operating radiation-producing equipment utilizing radiation safety measures. Must be able to perform a series of complex and precise technical procedures. Must be able to design a treatment plan by hand calculation and by computer.
