About The Position

The Certified Athletic Trainer is responsible for the day-to-day medical coverage of student-athletes in the high school outreach setting. They provide athletic training services to athletes while following all rules and regulations within the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Code of Ethics, the Board of Certification Standards of Professional Practice, and the Louisiana Athletic Trainers’ Practice Act. The Athletic Trainer, under the direction of a physician, ensures the health, wellness, and safety of athletes at their assigned school. This position supports student-athletes through injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and return to athletic activity following injury. The Athletic Trainer will work collaboratively with coaches, school staff, families, and other healthcare providers as necessary. This role administers immediate on-field care for injuries and develops a treatment program based on the specific nature of the injury, including referral to a physician or other appropriate medical provider when appropriate. The Athletic Trainer will appropriately communicate health care information with the athlete, caregiver, coach, school administrator, sports medicine management team, and physician as necessary. The certified athletic trainer will be responsible for any other assigned job duties and will be asked to demonstrate actions with LCMC’s Values and Mission.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree from Athletic Training, Sports Medicine, or other related field.
  • BOC Certified Athletic Trainer.
  • State Licensed Athletic Trainer through LSBME.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association.
  • Knowledge of scope of practice based on the state practice act.

Responsibilities

  • Provide athletic training services following NATA Code of Ethics, BOC Standards of Professional Practice, and Louisiana Athletic Trainers’ Practice Act.
  • Ensure the health, wellness, and safety of athletes at their assigned school under the direction of a physician.
  • Support student-athletes through injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, rehabilitation, and return to athletic activity.
  • Collaborate with coaches, school staff, families, and other healthcare providers.
  • Administer immediate on-field care for injuries.
  • Develop treatment programs based on injury nature.
  • Refer to a physician or other appropriate medical provider when necessary.
  • Communicate health care information with athletes, caregivers, coaches, school administrators, sports medicine management team, and physicians.
  • Perform any other assigned job duties.
  • Demonstrate actions aligned with LCMC’s Values and Mission.
