About The Position

Rivers Health is seeking a full-time Certified Athletic Trainer to perform duties related to the prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and documentation of injuries for athletes and patients. This role involves providing on-site care, coordinating with physicians and other medical professionals, maintaining accurate records, and educating patients. The position requires flexibility to work in both secondary school settings and clinical therapy environments.

Requirements

  • Completed and received a Bachelors/Master of Science degree in Athletic Training from a CAATE accredited institution.
  • Hold a current certification from the BOC.
  • Registered to participate as an Athletic Trainer in the State of WV.
  • Maintain first-aid and CPR certifications.
  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate with and understand patients of all ages, visitors, and other hospital personnel.
  • Possess basic knowledge of aseptic techniques.
  • Able to exercise sound clinical judgment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide on-site injury care and evaluation, acute care treatments, follow-up treatment, and rehabilitation for student athletes.
  • Coordinate with team physician for coverage of home varsity football games and on-site visits to evaluate and treat athletes from all sports.
  • Provide follow-up injury care in physician's office and develop reconditioning programs.
  • Assist on all matters pertaining to the health and well-being of student athletes.
  • Coordinate with paramedic team to define roles during Emergency Medical Services activation.
  • Determine when an athlete may safely return to full participation after an injury, following physician's authorization when needed.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records of all athletic injuries and treatments rendered, ensuring security and password protection per FERPA regulations.
  • Notify parents or legal guardians and recommend appropriate medical care for significant injuries.
  • Supervise the selection, fitting, and maintenance of protective equipment.
  • Provide assistance to coaching staff in developing and implementing conditioning programs.
  • Maintain proper credentials as a Weight Assessor for the State of WV.
  • Supervise the Athletic Training Room (ATR) and inspect playing facilities with coaching staff.
  • Select and maintain athletic training equipment and supplies.
  • Assist in maintaining records of Athletic Physicals and Medical Permission to Treat forms.
  • Obtain current athlete emergency information from the athletic office or school student medical records.
  • Attend clinics and symposiums for continuing education.
  • Perform evaluations and special tests for sports injury screenings and ARC baseline evaluations.
  • Perform ergonomic and functional assessments.
  • Evaluate and administer gait training.
  • Instruct home exercise programs as prescribed by OT, PT, and/or Physician.
  • Educate patients on their diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment plans, and answer patient questions.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans for ARC Program participants and training programs for Sports Performance Program.
  • Perform therapeutic exercise as directed by OT, PT, or physician.
  • Perform DME/brace fitting and splint making.
  • Maintain client/patient care records in compliance with HIPPA regulations.
  • Assist in clerical duties including scheduling, medical record organization and filing, and inventory.
  • Perform all other duties assigned by the Director of Sports Medicine and Rehab. Services and by the Manager of Sports Medicine.
  • Comply with Corporate Policies, Departmental Policies and Procedures, and the Personnel Employee Handbook.
