About The Position

The Central Sterile Supply Technician collects, decontaminates, stores, and distributes reusable supplies and patient care equipment in the hospital. The role inspects, decontaminates, assembles, and sterilizes instruments and other patient care equipment according to applicable processing guidelines and safety requirements. The technician operates departmental equipment, provides service to hospital departments, and processes and documents sterile supplies and equipment to verify sterility. The position also includes testing antimicrobial and disinfection solutions and documenting the results.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire.
• Critical thinking skills and decisive judgment.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Responsibilities

• Collect, decontaminate, store, and distribute reusable supplies and patient care equipment.
• Inspect, decontaminate, assemble, and sterilize instruments and other patient care equipment in accordance with processing guidelines and AAMI, AORN, TJC, and OSHA requirements.
• Operate departmental equipment daily according to manufacturer instructions, with an emphasis on safety.
• Provide customer service to all departments with a focus on patient needs.
• Process and document sterile supplies and equipment daily using chemical, biological, and mechanical indicators to verify sterility in accordance with manufacturer instructions and hospital policy.
• Monitor and perform antimicrobial and disinfection solution testing according to manufacturer instructions, and document results daily.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
