About The Position

Northern Nevada Medical Center is hiring a full-time Central Scheduler for its Central Scheduling department. The position offers a day shift schedule. The Central Scheduler interviews incoming patients or their representatives and enters information required for admission into a computer database, distributes appropriate information to ancillary departments, and participates in performance improvement and CQI activities. The role schedules patients for assigned outpatient procedures according to scheduling guidelines and ancillary department specifications, processes physician orders, and addresses scheduling or order-related issues.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Minimum of one year of experience as a surgery scheduler.
• Basic computer knowledge.
• Ability to type a minimum of 40 words per minute.
• Knowledge of patient/guest relations skills.

Nice To Haves

• Radiology scheduling experience.
• Insurance authorization experience.

Responsibilities

• Interview incoming patients or their representatives and enter information required for admission into the computer database.
• Distribute appropriate information to ancillary departments.
• Participate in performance improvement and CQI activities.
• Accurately schedule patients for assigned outpatient procedures according to scheduling application guidelines and ancillary department specifications.
• Add, delete, and reschedule procedures as needed.
• Obtain a licensed nurse when a family member requests communication about a patient's condition beyond the Schedule Coordinator's scope of practice.
• Obtain and process physicians’ orders, including calling to obtain orders, scanning orders into the Document Imaging application, and reminding patients to bring orders.
• Review physician orders for appropriateness and address issues.
