About The Position

Apple’s RF Transmitter Systems Engineering team develops transmitter architectures and solutions for Apple wireless products. The role contributes to products by assessing, specifying, and driving transmitter concepts, with a focus on leading-edge performance and uncompromised quality. The engineer works closely with architecture and systems engineering teams, RF design teams, and software teams, and helps deliver product commitments on schedule and to quality expectations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree and at least 10 years of relevant industry experience.
  • At least 5 years of RF transceiver design experience for cellular systems, focused on transmit architectures.
  • Expert knowledge of communication transmitters, including cellular FR1 and FR2, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth; TX lineup design; and component-level trade-offs involving gain, linearity, noise, power, and thermal considerations.
  • Proven ownership of transmitter performance metrics, including ACLR, EVM, spurious emissions, and spectrum masks.
  • Working knowledge of transmitter system-level concepts and control procedures, such as power control, digital predistortion (DPD), and envelope tracking (ET).
  • Thorough knowledge of 3GPP cellular standards, including LTE/LTE-A and 5G NR, TX waveforms, RF requirements, and system use cases.
  • Strong expertise in machine learning, including theoretical fundamentals in classical methods such as clustering and dimensionality reduction, neural networks, and supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning.
  • Proven experience applying machine learning to RF problems such as calibration, linearization (e.g., DPD), or modeling, and understanding of trade-offs in model complexity, data requirements, generalization, interpretability, and embedded-hardware computational cost.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to collaborate in multicultural, global teams.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with mmWave architectures, phased array systems, and related control concepts.
  • Knowledge and experience in communication systems focused on the physical layer, such as modulation and coding, OFDM, channel estimation, and link-level performance.
  • Background in digital signal processing.
  • Understanding of SoC integration constraints and multi-chip RF architectures.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, specify, and drive RF transmitter concepts in collaboration with architecture and systems engineering, RF design, and software teams.
  • Develop and contribute to transmitter architectures and solutions for Apple wireless products.
  • Focus on leading-edge transmitter performance and product quality.
