Drivers operate heavy-duty trucks equipped with front, side, or rear-end load lift attachments and transport waste or recyclable materials to disposal, transfer, or recycling facilities when trucks reach legal load capacity. Depending on the line of business, drivers may collect commercial containers, residential household waste or recyclables, or large mobile open-top and compactor containers. The work includes navigating congested roadways, driveways, alleyways, and lots; some routes require skilled backing or operation in tight overhead environments. Drivers may need to maneuver wheeled containers weighing more than 1,000 pounds. This safety-sensitive position requires operating in accordance with company safety rules and applicable OSHA, DOT, and local, state, and federal requirements. Drivers inspect and document vehicle condition, report incidents and service issues, follow assigned routes, complete end-of-day records, and work with operations staff to meet customer needs. The stated pay range begins at $26 per hour, depending on experience. Shifts may start as early as 3 a.m.; workdays are 10–12 hours, Monday through Friday, with occasional Saturdays. The position is described as home daily.
