Drivers operate heavy-duty trucks equipped with front-, side-, or rear-end load-lift attachments, depending on the line of business and vehicle. They transport material to disposal, transfer, or recycling facilities when trucks reach legal load capacity. Commercial Drivers pick up containers of waste or recyclable material, which may weigh more than 1,000 pounds and sometimes require maneuvering wheeled containers to a pickup staging area. Residential Drivers collect household waste or recyclables and safely maneuver vehicles in residential environments. Roll-off Drivers prepare, load, and transport large mobile open-top and compactor containers from customer locations. The work involves navigating congested roads, driveways, alleyways, and lots; skilled backing is essential, and industrial roll-off routes may involve tight overhead environments. Drivers operate safely and reliably in accordance with company, OSHA, DOT, and applicable laws and regulations. They inspect and document vehicle condition before and after trips, report safety and service issues, communicate customer requests and route interruptions, complete assigned routes and end-of-day documentation, and help meet customer needs. This is a safety-sensitive role requiring compliance with safety protocols and potentially pre-employment, post-incident, reasonable-suspicion, and random drug and alcohol testing. The posted schedule is Monday through Friday, with a 5 a.m. start. WM describes this as a home-daily role, with drivers home at night and on weekends. The advertised pay range is $22–$31 per hour. Benefits may vary by site and include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, a stock purchase plan, a company-matched 401(k), paid vacation, holidays, and personal days.
