About The Position
Waste Management (WM) is hiring a residential driver to operate a heavy-duty truck equipped with an automated side-loader attachment and collect residential household waste or recyclable material. The driver safely maneuvers the vehicle in residential environments and on high-traffic or congested roadways, driveways, alleyways, and lots. When the truck reaches legal load capacity, the driver transports the material to a disposal, transfer, or recycling facility. The role requires safe, compliant vehicle operation; completion and documentation of pre- and post-trip inspections; communication with Operations Management or Dispatch about incidents, service issues, customer requests, and hazards; and completion of assigned routes and end-of-day documentation. The position is safety-sensitive and requires compliance with company safety protocols and applicable laws and regulations.
Requirements
- At least 1 year operating a vehicle requiring a CDL, or 1 year of equivalent military driving experience, within the last 7 years.
- At least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the country where the position is located.
- Able to read, write, and speak English well enough to interact with the public, understand traffic signs, respond to official questions, and complete records or reports.
- Successfully complete pre-employment screening, including a drug screen and physical.
- Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A with an air-brake endorsement or CDL Class B with an air-brake endorsement.
- Comply with safety rules and protocols; the role may be subject to drug and alcohol testing during employment.

Responsibilities
- Operate the vehicle in accordance with WM Safety and Life Critical Rules, OSHA and DOT requirements, and applicable local, state, and federal laws.
- Perform pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections and document them using the standard Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR).
- Immediately report unsafe situations and service-related issues to the Operations Manager or Dispatch.
- Attend and participate in scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings as required.
- Work with the Operations Manager to improve route efficiencies and identify best practices.
- Report incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage to the Operations Manager.
- Notify the Operations Manager or Dispatch about service interruptions, impassable streets or alleyways, receptacles too heavy to service, and potential safety hazards.
- Communicate customer requests to the Operations Manager or Dispatch.
- Completely empty receptacles and leave customer locations clean and free of debris.
- Follow assigned routes and complete end-of-day documentation and checkout.
- Perform scheduled duties and assist other drivers as directed to meet customer needs.
- Transport collected material to a disposal, transfer, or recycling facility when the truck reaches legal load capacity.
