Drivers operate heavy-duty trucks equipped with front-, side-, or rear-end load-lift attachments, depending on the line of business and truck type. They transport materials to disposal, transfer, or recycling facilities when vehicles reach legal load capacity. Commercial Drivers pick up containers of waste or recyclable materials, which may weigh more than 1,000 pounds and may need to be maneuvered to a pickup area. Residential Drivers collect household waste or recyclables and safely operate in residential settings. Roll-off Drivers prepare, load, and transport large open-top and compactor containers from customer locations. These roles involve navigating congested roads, driveways, alleyways, and lots; some industrial routes include tight overhead environments, and skilled backing is essential. Drivers follow assigned routes, provide reliable customer service, keep customer locations clean, complete required vehicle inspections and documentation, and comply with safety procedures and applicable laws. The role is designated safety sensitive and requires compliance with safety protocols and may include drug and alcohol testing. This is an on-site position with an expected base pay range of $26.00–$28.00. WM describes its drivers as working hard and driving safely, with drivers home at night and on weekends.
